Hotel/Motel REIT's
Master List

As you might guess Hotel/Motel REIT's come in all sizes and shapes.  Also it should be obvious
that the general state of the economy and the  desire of the public to travel, whether on business
or pleasure drives the earnings of these companies.

Hotel/Motel REITS are somewhat different then many other types of REITS. Where many REITS
simply own real estate and do not operate the businesses in the buildings Hotel/Motel REITS many
times operate the businesses---although law restricts their ability to operate businesses directly.  
Because of REIT law they operate properties through wholly owned divisions that are taxable
divisions.

A large investment consideration should be whether the company has kept up with maintenance
on their facilities and similar items.  Has the company kept up with current trends in lodging?

Alway do your due diligence and as with all investments diversification is key so do not put all of
your investment dollars in 1 investment--or in 1 type of REIT.

It should be noted that a number of these REIT's have Preferred Shares paying  solid 7 to 8%
yields---of course you generally give up capital gains opportunities
