This will run a couple days behind as we read and evaluate (think before
responding)
May 15, 2013

Reader thought we had an error on Pitney Bowes debt (PBI-B)

Response - Thanks for the note.  Pitney issues two debt issues in the last 7 months--PBI-A and PBI-B.  'A" is a 5.25% issue
and 'B' is a 6.7% issue---the key difference is the maturity dates---'A' is 2022 and 'B' is 2043.

May 14, 2013

Reader asks about our thoughts on Northern Tier LP  (NTI).  Thanks us for the site.

Response - we are watching Northern Tier and CVR Refining (CVRR).  It's all about the 'crack spread' (cost of input crude
and value of outputs--gasoline, diesel etc.) and if this holds up these are very cheap.  CVR hit yesterday on announcement of
common share issue and we may buy soon.

May 10-14, 2013

We have received many notes on new issues (preferred and debt) coming out.

Response - Many of the new issues coming out (in fact many more than normal) are $1000/share preferred and debt
issues.  We only cover $25/share issues (and a few $50/share issues).  The $100 and $1000 issues simply have little to no
liquidity--thus buying and selling is pretty difficult to execute.

May 8, 2013

Howard mentions Exchange Income Corp (a Canadian issue) shows 0 dividend and it should be 14 cents.

Response - thanks Howard--we actually had it, but a formula that feeds that cell got moved so it showed 0 and we had not
noticed.

May 8, 2013

Unable to find Capstead Mortgage REIT preferred---CMO-B.  Asks about a search function.

Response - that is a convertible issue which we do not carry at this moment.  We will see if adding a Google site search
works.

May 7, 2013

Note that we had the new Arbor Realty Issue with the wrong ticker.

Response - sorry about that - we had found that and corrected it prior to reading your note - thats what happens on my
middle of night work sessions.

May 6, 2013

2 Notes from Steve that Arlington Asset Investment 6.625% Senior Notes (ticker:AIW) are trading.

Response - Thanks Steve---we appreciate the note as the exchange traded debt issues trade without pre warning.

May 2, 2013

Howard thanked us for the Twitter feed as it got him into a new issue early creating an very quick profit.

Response - Thanks Howard - glad this feature works for you.

May 2, 2013

Steve asks about issues tied to the U.S. Government seem to trade below par while all the others (preferreds etc) have traded
higher.  Any thoughts on this?

Response - I don't think it is anything special although since Fannie essentially went bust there is a distrust of government
related agencies--I know that is how I feel.  The Sallie Mae inflation notes pay only 4% or so now so par ($25) is probably about
right.  The Federal Agricultural Mortgage 5.875% preferred issue in my mind should trade higher than par.  We know that people
think ag is on a bubble (land prices), but the lending being done to farmers isn't like it was in the 70's and 80's when banks lent
100% of value.  Now some lend at 50% and the more aggressive ones at 70-75% so there is a much better loan/value
proposition for this lending.  We own the Federal Agricultural (
ticker-AGM-A)  issue and feel very safe with it at this level.

May 2, 2013

Reader asks what we do for a day job?

Response - Both my wife and I worked in mid management for The Pillsbury Company--me for 20 years her for almost 30
years.  I closed a facility and fired myself some years ago.  Since then I did a short stint with Morgan Stanley (but our ethical
ideas didn't match up well so I left).  For the last 13 years I have been a property appraiser--I am the only one left in our county
working full time and am more busy then I want to be with it (I would rather work on this).  Bought my first stock when I was 17
(had to have mom sign for me) and have been hooked (some would say obsessed) since.

May 2, 2013

Will Teekay Preferred distribution be treated as a MLP?  Is it better in an IRA or cash account?  Love your site.

Response - Per the registration statement distributions will be 'qualified dividends' for the most part - although it is possible
some could be 'return of capital' (thus we believe these will not be K-1 distributions--no mention is made of a K-1).

We hold almost everything in various IRA's etc.  If they are qualified distributions taxes should be lessened for taxable
accounts--but everyone is different in this reqard.

Glad the site is helpful to you--we sure work hard on it.

April 26, 2013

Reader let us know WR Berkley had announced a new debt issue.

Response - Thank you very much for the note--we had not seen that announcement in our normal spots.  We have added it
to the New Issue list etc.

April 25, 2013

Partner RE 5.875% Preferred is listed as cumulative--but is non cumulative.

Response - Thanks for the note--had it correct on the recap page, but found the incorrect ones on the grids and correct them.

April 24, 2013

A note pointing out we had the Dynex new issue preferred listed with the wrong dividend on the recap page.

Response - Thanks for the note--we have corrected it.  We had it correct on the new issue spreadsheet but not on the recap.

April 23, 2013

A note thanking us for the website and asking about GTC orders (Good-Til-Cancelled)

Response - a GTC order means you put in an order and it stays in force until you cancel it (as opposed to a Day Order which
expires at the end of the day).  Although GTC orders really don't last forever--our brokers cancel them after 60 days.  You would
use a GTC if you wanted to pay just 24.75/share on a new issue and it was trading at 25/share.  A GTC limit order would keep
you order in force until it executed at your price (or would simply stay in force if it never executes).

April 23, 2013

A note on new offerings from CYS Investments and Zions Bancorp.

Response - Thanks for the note.  We were aware these were coming--just haven't gotten the pages done quite yet.

April 22, 2013

Notes that Argo Group Notes (ticker:AGIIL) bounce around a lot.  What is behind those moves?

Response - obviously we are not certain of why it moves this way--but we have a good guess.  This is an investment grade
issue with a range since issue of about a dollar.  We note quite a few 500 and 1000 share trades and total volume that averages
over 25,000 shares/day (more than many similar issues).  Likely someone is 'scalping' this one on an almost daily basis--put in
a GTC order at the low end (say at $25) then after execution immediately put in an order to sell at 10 or 15 cents higher.  It isn't
much but if you can scalp off $100/day you can do pretty well over the year.

April 17, 2013

2 different readers ask about the new Dynex Preferred.

Response - we think it is fine for all but the most conservative investor.  Today (4/19) it is trading at 24.88 on the OTC and
that is a good target price.

April 15, 2013

Reader can't find the menu for New Issues.

Response - Item is on the bottom right menu in a bold faced menu.  We are having some trouble with this menu 'morphing'
incorrect names and are working to correct.

April 15, 2013

Steve asks why Pebblebrook New Preferred paid just a partial dividend on 4/15/2013.

Response - Many times the first one is just a partial depending on the settlement date of the offering and when they decide
to pay the first dividend.  Sometimes it is for more than a full quarter if timing is such that it makes not sense to pay a nickel etc.

On this one they did mention the first dividend amount in the offering prospectus in the 2nd sentence.
 Look here.

April 12, 2013

Thanking us for the website, but noting Trust Preferred page 'by yield' is sorting only by description.

Response - Thanks for the note and we hope we provide some value to you.  We have corrected the sorting.

April 11, 2013

Banker says Stag Industrial Preferred (STGIB) won't trade until the 16th or 17th.

Response - We only know what has been announced and the OTC announced them to trade today--althought the temp
ticker is active we have noted no trades today.

April 11, 2013

Asking our opinion on SDT and SDR  (both are Sandridge US Royalty Trusts).

Response - All of the trusts have been beaten down.  In general we like the ones you mention and certainly they have been
beaten down.  These seem to now be trading down for 2 months and rising into ex dividend dates.  With 17 years til the end
these are at a minimum a good short term trade--at best they are great bargains.  Remember you need to be bullish the
underlying commodity to buy any trust (and we are a bit tepid on crude as the economy sputters).

April 11, 2013

Thanking us for the website and noting JP Morgan is called a bunch of Trust Preferreds

Response - Glad there is some value to you on the site.  We knew about the JPM redemptions--and now have updated the
pages reflecting it.

April 9, 2013

Reader wants to know what we think about the new Stag Industrial (a REIT) preferred (STAG-B) that is coming out.

Response -  Thanks for the note--that is a real fresh one and not priced yet.  If it comes around 7.75% (which we are
guessing) we would be a buyer--hopefully on the OTC wholesale market.  More to come when it prices.

April 9, 2013

Reader notes that the ticker on Texas Bancshares Preferred is incorrect.

Response - thanks for the heads up--we have corrected the ticker.

April 9, 2013

Reader asking where to find the ultra conservative portfolio.

Response - Unfortunately it has not been launched yet--time constraints have been severe.  But it is coming--soon I hope .

April 8, 2013

Reader asks about strategy when we move to a higher interest rate environment.

Response - we will write about the overall strategy for the coming months within the week.

April 8, 2013

Reader asked us to check out GRT (Glimcher Realty Trust) preferreds.

Response - Glimcher is one of the lowest rated preferreds out there (CCC+) and even though the shares may do well we
don't buy shares rated this low.  In general low rated shares will do ok in a stable or slight up trending economy (which is where
we are)--you just don't want low quality when the economy heads south.

April 7, 2013

Reader having some trouble getting orders to execute for OTC 'wholesale pricing' on new issues.

Response - we have had just a couple issues this year that we didn't get when we wanted it.  We don't have much to add to
what is
on this page BUT we can say that you should study the bid/ask and assuming it is a reasonable nickel or dime spread
you can place an order even a nickel above the ask and then simply wait.  There will be times when you maybe don't get an
execution.  Remember buying 'wholesale' is a relative term--sometimes wholesale may be at par or a little above.

The next best option is to buy it the first day on the NYSE.  Typically if they are going to run a percent or 2 after issue a good share
of it will take a month to occur in which case you will have captured most of the immediate capital appreciation.

It should be noted that buying 'wholesale' doesn't appear to be as lucrative as it was last year--the issuers have simply knocked
the coupon down so low there is not as much demand once it hits the NYSE--thus less of a bump is realized.

April 4, 2013

Bought Hanover Insurance Group--like it.  What do you think of Whiting Trust II (WHZ)?

Response - with the benefit of hindsight we should have sold all of Whiting in the $17's when we had the chance (instead of
just a portion of it).  We think it is undervalued--they should announce a reasonably good distribution in a month, but while we
are tempted to buy more heading into the announcement we are on hold now as WHZ is obviously not being valued in the way
we think it should be valued.

April 3, 2013

Is LTC still a buy at this price (41.91ish)?

Response - as we mentioned when we purchased it we look at it as a long term buy and hold and a play on the rapidly
aging population of the U.S.  It is up over 4% in the week since we bought it -- just a 1/2 position as we are expecting a setback
sometime and would fill it out at that time.  We would not buy today as we may have the setback coming---but on a long term
basis I am not sure a dollar a share should matter to anyone (although some watch every wiggle and worry about it).

April 2, 2013

Why don't you add a sort button?

Response -  We can only work within the confines of Google Docs and without opening spreadsheets to everyone we can't
add a sort button.

We have allowed copying of spreadsheets for those wanting to copy and then manipulate the data any way you would want to
manipulate it.  You can get further
info here on this matter.

April 2, 2013

BAC-H is showing a -16% yield--how is that calculated?

Response - You are looking at the 'Yield to Call' column.  The issue is callable in a month and our assumptions for 'yield to
call' are that it is called on the 1st possible day.  The issue is trading 2% above par ($25) The -16% is an annualized loss if
called.  In reality you need to factor in the
accrued dividend so it would be some less then -16%---but if it was called the 1st day
you would lose money.

This issue in fact was called for redemption today and will pay about 50 cents in accrued dividends so in reality it is a breakeven
since the shares were trading right at 25.50.

We will look at this and see if we can configure the 'accrued dividends' into the formula.

March 25, 2013

Note asking for a monthly paying security list--of all types together.

Response - we like that idea and will try to put it together in the next week or so.

March 25, 2013

Note from Louisville KY thanking us for the website and all we do.

Response - thanks for the note--thats what makes all our time worthwhile.

March 23, 2013

Armour Residential REIT (ARR) has lowered monthly dividend to 7 cents.

Response - Thanks--we have updated.

March 23, 2013

You are missing Javelin Mortgage from the various REIT lists.

Response - Thanks for the note--we are updating the lists with it added.

March 22, 2013

You are missing new issue--investment grade Prudential Financial (PRH) Jr Sub Notes.

Response - Thanks for letting us know--we have added it.

March 19, 2013

The percentage shown on new Interstate Power and Light issue conflicts with the correct number.

Response - Thanks--you are correct and we fixed it.  We had it incorrect in two spots originally but caught one but not the
other.

March 18, 2013

Hersha Hospitality preferred is trading on Fidelity as HTPRC--not sure you have that one.

Response - Yes we have that one as HT-C.  Each firm has something different in their method of listing.

March 17, 2013

Larry lets us know that CapLease has raised their dividend.

Response - Thanks Larry we updated the lists.

March 16, 2013

2 Separate Notes---you are missing Weyerhaeser and First Industrial Trust from the REIT list.

Response - you are both right--after all these years you would have thought we would have had these--we have added them
now.  Thanks for the notes.

March 15, 2013

Brett asks if we changed our minds on Farmer Mac Preferred (ticker:AGM-A)--we said we were going to buy but hadn't yet.  Also
loves the site.

Response - Haven't changed our minds -- and did buy some on 2/4 for 24.85.  We hold as a very conservative hold.  Glad you
like the site - we try to be helpful.

March 13, 2013

Just discovered your great site.  How often do they update?  How can I print tables?

Response - see below for printing options--hopefully something will help.  Prices volumes update every 5 minutes.  Listing
etc are updated as quick as I can get it done (since this is just a hobby sometimes it is a couple days).

March 10, 2013

Does sharing of spreadsheets mean you are stopping updating spreadsheets etc?

Response - No--it only means some have asked for access and this way they can copy to their own files.  Nothing changes
on our end.

March 9, 2013

Menu appear to be stable.

Response - thanks for letting us know Howard.

March 9, 2013

Tried the print suggestion and it does work.

Response - that is part of the reason we decided to 'share' some spreadsheets--so folks could get their copy and then print
or work with that in whatever way they wanted to work with it.

March 7, 2013

Still having menu issues.

Response - We can find no issues anymore.  Make sure to 'reload' the page as the menu in the cache of your computer will
still be the old menu before repair.

March 7, 2013

Can you add a print button to the spreadsheets?

Response - We will look into it--BUT the best option now is to right click in either Chrome or Internet Explorer browsers and
then select 'print'.  This does not work in Firefox.

March 7, 2013

Invesco Mortgage  Capital has the wrong dividend on the mREIT page.  Can you add Western Asset Mortgage Capital to the
mREIt page.

Response - You are correct - thanks.  We have fixed it.  We have added Western Asset Mortgage Capital to the mREIT page.

March 6, 2013

When I click on Canadian Income Issues Ocean Transportation comes up.

Response - when we make any change on the menu's it rolls through all pages (1200 or so) and we notice an occasional
qlitch.  We have rerun it this morning and believe it fixed.

March 5, 2013

The site is great.  This has been so helpful in building a portfolio.  I justed wanted to say thanks.

Response - Thanks for the thanks.  That is what makes it worthwhile.

March 5, 2013

Asking why the KKR Preferred symbol keeps changing.

Response - Don't have a clue as to why the change, but thanks for the notification so we  could update our lists etc.

March 1, 2013

Requesting adding Preferreds and Exchange Traded Debt to the Business Development Company page.

Response - yes we will add these.

March 1, 2013

Atlantic Power dividend has been cut to .0333/mo.

Response - you are correct and we thank you.  We have updated our list.

February 27, 2013

You use DHY as a benchmark index to assess the effects of market interest rates on high yield securities.

DHY appears to be composed of junk bonds, not preferred stocks, if I am correct.

Would it be more appropriate to use PGX or PFF to judge the effects of market rates on prefer reds?

Perhaps you are assuming that preferreds and junk bonds behave similarly with regard to the effects of interest rates.

I believe that is indeed the case; I have looked at JNK, PGX and PFF and they all
seem to react similarly to changes in interest rates. My benchmark market rates are the Ten Year Treasury rate (TNX) and as
Doug LeDuc suggests, the Five Year Treasury rate (FVX).

Response -  You have mis-read the charts.  We use the Yield Hunter Indexes (right above the charts on the Preferred
CEFETF page---
here  to compare against the 10 year treasury (TNX).  These are all preferred indexes we calculate off the CEF's
and ETF's show on the page.  We adjust for dividends (add dividends back into the index).  So the intent is to compare pure
Preferreds against interest rates.

We will check out the FVX.

February 25, 2013

Why won't the MLP button work?

Response - We checked them and they seem to be ok on our end.

February 24, 2013

HTZY seems to have the incorrect current yield.

Response - We have checked and don't find any issues.

February 24, 2013

Wants to know how to import quotes into google spreadsheet for those that Google Finance doesn't have.

Response - cut and paste this formula into your spreadsheet cell to import just the current price from Yahoo,  Note that
Google limits imports to no more than 50 cells per spreadsheets.

=importdata("http://download.finance.yahoo.com/d/quotes.csv?s=AEK&f=l1")

Where this formula has AEK -- take it out and enter the ticker you want to price.

February 23, 2013

WMC is missing from the REIT page.

Response - thanks - we have added it.

February 23, 2013

Current Yield for AGM-A seems off.

Response - thanks - the formula on one page was off--we corrected the error.

February 21, 2013

Why isn't Linn Energy on the MLP pages?

Response - technically Linn is a LLC---but just the same we have added it and will add more LLC's to the MLP pages

February 15, 2013

Note that the distribution on IVR (Invesco Mortgage Capital--a REIT) was incorrect.

Response - You are correct and we changed the distribution----thanks.

February 12, 2013

Asking how to find out when exchange traded debt will trade (new issues)

Response - we know of no good way to find this out, but will do some homework on it.

February 11, 2013

Asking of other ways beyond Twitter to follow updates.

Response - we are looking into RSS, but our platform isn't friendly in that respect.  We didn't like Twitter at first but we are
seeing the benefits of it now.

February 8, 2013

Note that we had the HSBC issue HBA-F described as a cumulative (it is non cumulative).

Response - Thanks Ryan--we corrected that description.

February 7, 2013

Note that caps on previous note weren't meant as 'yelling'.

Response - not a problem at all Howard

February 7, 2013

Note on incorrect interest payments of the 2 SLM exchange traded debt issues--both are floating rate.

Response - Thanks for letting us know.  There are a few floating rate issues on the site and we have to manually update
them.  We note they were correct on 2 pages but not on the 'alphabetical' page.  We try to keep up the best we can.

February 2, 2013

Request to add Just Energy (ticker:JE) to the Utility Pages.

Response - Just Energy is a Canadian Utility---but has substantial U.S. assets.  We had them on the Canadian Income
Companies List page--but have also added them to the general utility pages.

February 1, 2013

Asking about White Horse Finance (WHF) dividend.  We showed a 10.8 cent dividend, which represented 3 weeks distribution
as it is a new issue.

Response - We went ahead and changed the distribution to represent a full quarter distribution--and we annualized the yield
shown.  We are adding a note to the page that all distributions represent the most recent dividend annualized.

February 1, 2013

Question on why we are selling a portion of Whiting USA Trust II.  Doesn't understand the model goals and didn't think the model
was a 'trading' account.

Response - Thanks for the question.  We have clarified the goals of the model on the model page.  WHZ was a very large
position bought when it went on 'sale'.  By selling half we have ensured that we lock in a good profit in just weeks--but yet remain
positioned for the longer term with a continued good sized position.  This is the 1st sale since inception--so it would be kind of
hard to classify the account as a trading account.  In general we do not believe in 'buy and hold' -- nor do we believe in
'trading'--we believe in a blend.

January 29, 2013

Compliment on site and note that Protective Life debt (PLP) has incorrect par price resulting in a Yield to Call incorrect figure.

Response - Thanks for the compliment.  We note that PLP had the correct par price on the regular exchange traded debt
pages--but somehow got changed when the debt issues were rolled into the 'investment grade' page.  Thanks for the note--we
have corrected the par price on the investment grade page.

January 29, 2013

Request to add 2 Capstead Mortgage Preferred issues.

Response - These 2 issues are Convertibles which we do not currently cover.  Will be doing it shortly though.

January 28, 2013

Looking for Glacier Water preferred

Response - remember it is a trust preferred stock and it is on the trust preferred list.

January 24, 2013

Concerns on PetroBakken.  Holds it and it has gone down a bunch.

Response - See article on the home page addressing PetroBakken.  Please be diversified in you investments and always
you your due diligence--we're just regular folks like our readers so we don't always pick just the winners.

January 22, 2013

Compliment on website.  Also asked to put tax info (qualified dividends etc) on blurbs about new issues.

Response - Thanks for the compliment.  We will add more tax info (note that the prospectus almost always has this info in
the section titled '
tax considerations').

January 22, 2013

CML Healthcare (a Canadian issue) is now paying a quarterly dividend of .1325 instead of a monthly.

Response - Thank you--we will check and correct (you are correct--we have fixed)

January 18, 2013

Let us know about an error on the coupon on CapLease 'A' series preferred.

Response - thanks you are correct -- we changed it to 8.125%

January 18, 2013

Asking for a bit more commentary on the quality of new issues.

Response - we are adding more subjective comment relative to who issues might suit--and commentary on quality on non
rated issues.

January 17, 2013

Note that CapLease should NOT be listed as a mortgage REIT.

Response - thanks for the note - we agree and have changed it.

January 17, 2013

Is NTI a preferred issue?

Response - No it is a Master Limited Partnership (MLP).  We have clarified.

January 16, 2013

Error notification---IDG earliest redemption date in wrong.

Response - Thanks for letting us know--we have corrected it.

January 15, 2013

Request for a convertible bond section.

Response - We would love to have this section, but we don't know if there is adequate volume in that market and good 'price
discovery'.  We will have it on the list of potential sections to add (with convertible preferreds, added Canadian issues and
income oriented common stocks).  Thanks for the suggestion.

January 15, 2013

Request a review of Parkland Fuel (Canadian issue) description as 'convenience stores' as this is only a very small part
compared to fuel distribution.

Response - Review the company and you are correct.  We have changed the descriptor to 'fuel distribution'.  Thanks for the
note.

January 15, 2013

Likes the new additions to the site in particular the Twitter feed.

Response - Thanks (I assume you suggested the feed originally).  Glad you like the changes.

January 14, 2013

Note that we were missing 2 Magnum Hunter Preferred issues.

Response - we added 1 issue (the $50 issue)--the other is a convertible which are not yet covering.

January 14, 2013

Compliment on website.  Also mentioned Aflac exchange traded debt issue should go on the 'investment grade page'.

Response - Thanks for the compliment Steve.  Investment grade page covers only purely preferreds right now.  We will add
ETD to the page soon.

January 13, 2013

Asking whether the new Preferred from KKR Financial distribution will include a 'return of capital'.

Response - The prospectus has a section 'Additional Material U.S. Federal Tax Considerations'--in approximately the 4th
paragraph it is stated 'then the holders capital account balance will be reduced by the excess'.  This would seem to indicate that
there may be years in which it is return of capital.

January 12, 2013

This is the best site ever--just wanted you to know.

Response - We work hard on it and know we have a ways to go--but thanks for the compliment.

January 12, 2013

Correction request to dividend of Bonavista Energy (Canadian).

Response - you are correct--thank you.  Corrected on website.

January 11, 2013

Asking why we no longer list WFC-L.

Response - years ago we listed convertibles, but discontinued a number of years ago.  We plan to add them, but God only
knows when.

January 11, 2013

Suggesting we add a note on KKR Financial New Issue preferred that it will generate a K-1 (partnership income).

Response - Good idea.  Thanks.  We added notes to the appropriate spots.

January 11, 2013

Correction note -  had number of shares purchased on Model Portfolio spreadsheet incorrect for TCB-C.

Response - you are correct.  Thanks for the note--we have corrected the error.

January 11, 2013

Question on why not making the Model Portfolio mirror exactly what we personally own.  Compliment on website.

Response - We will in the next 10 days find a way to post what we own, in terms of what issues, on a spreadsheet with the
caveat that we do some day to day option trading (generally on interest rates) and we can't include that as it is too quick and
outside the goal on 'income investing'.

January 11, 2013

Compliment on the website and recent article on Silver Bay Property Trust.  Request for some coverage on WHZ (Whiting USA
Trust II).

Response - Thanks for your compliments--we are working harder than ever on the site.  We will do some coverage
specifically on WHZ in the next 30 days.

January 11, 2013

Compliments on the website.

Suggestion on adding either a Twitter feed or RSS feed so updates can be 'announced' and known without always having to
check.

Response - Thanks for the compliment.  We have reactivated the Twitter feed and will use it--although our demographic isn't
generally heavy Twitter users.  We will investigate RSS and see what we need to do technology wise (don't know if we are smart
enough to initiate it).

January 10, 2013

Request to add more Canadian issues beyond just those trading on U.S. exchanges

Response - We will evaluate this closer after we complete the U.S. listing.  Decision will partially be determined based upon
our ability to 'scrape' live quotes from Google or Yahoo

January 10, 2013
